Senior UX Designer

The role

We are looking for an experienced UX designer to build and grow our product capability for websites and apps, but also contribute to the development of our design team.

This a client-facing, consultative role, which is integral to the success of our digital projects, and great communication skills are a must. Therefore, the successful candidate will be comfortable and confident leading the presentation of solutions and showcases.

They will be a natural collaborator and design thinker who translates customer and business needs into innovative, customer-driven strategic solutions. They integrate with many roles to ideate and communicate digital experiences, including, Engineering, Consulting, QA, Analytics and Strategy.

They bring comprehensive UX analysis and design knowledge and have a passion for customer experience and problem-solving.

They are empathic, diplomatic and flexible while seeing the big picture. They solve problems based on research, data and industry best practices with a strong focus on service design. They contribute to the overall vision across product teams, helping to bring to life the experience vision for a project, with the unique ability to bring others across product and technology along the journey with them.

Role responsibilities

  • Communicate research findings to inform business decisions through the best possible means with relevant stakeholders to help inform our decision-making.
  • Present solutions and showcase designs to senior client stakeholders with confidence to instil trust and credibility.
  • Present and communicate solutions and showcases to stakeholders and executives in a manner that simplifies complexity and generates excitement
  • Work with clients to formulate design briefs.
  • Help cultivate the product design culture of the team, including championing user-centric design thinking across the company and maintaining a collaborative design process.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, QAs, Analysts and Engineers throughout the discovery, design and development process to help solve user and business goals, and to ensure the quality of delivered products.
  • Contribute to the growth of the design team including mentoring others to deliver their best work.
  • Leading and mentoring design teams on digital projects, taking responsibility for product design deliverables (e.g., UX and UI artefacts)
  • Support the test process to ensure websites and apps adhere to the design specification.
  • Stay current on all the tools, principles and practices in product design, prototyping and development, and drive for continuous improvement.
  • Create visual artifacts to articulate, inform and validate ideas with consumers and stakeholders (prototypes, wireframes, sketches, journey maps, personas, etc).
  • Lead user research to determine the best approaches and methods to capture the right insights; plan and run qualitative studies, including (but not limited to) user interviews, remote and in-person usability studies.
  • Lead and develop user experience research plans to understand consumer and associate needs, opportunities and pain points to continually inform an iterative design process.
  • Collect and synthesise qualitative and quantitative research to inform and validate design decisions.
  • Contribute to design estimates and project planning activities.
  • Input into the creation of user stories to define user requirements.

Personal qualities

  • You will be confident in presenting solutions and design showcases to senior client stakeholders to instil trust and credibility.
  • You will have experience of leading client engagements with the client primary stakeholder and be comfortable building and maintaining trusted client relationships.
  • You must be comfortable in challenging customer feedback to preserve the integrity of the design if they believe a client’s feedback to be damaging to the success of the project.
  • You have previous experience working collaboratively as part of the design team.
  • You have a proven track record of designing successful products that users love, and you will have a solid background in a UX design role.
  • You will have client-side and/or digital agency experience and a proven track record in digital product projects and end-to-end experience of the project lifecycle.
  • You have hands-on experience with exploratory and evaluative qualitative research methods; you’ll have previous experience in running research projects and user tests, from planning to running the sessions to analysing and creating deliverables.
  • You must be an exceptionally clear communicator including facilitation, presentation and written skills and must have the ability to be pragmatic and drive strong scope management disciplines.
  • You will have experience of working in an Agile environment, and be able to estimate, plan, shape and deliver projects within an Agile framework.
  • You have empathy for customer needs but can also consider technical constraints and business goals. You’re passionate about inclusive design and accessibility, and you’ll design with all users in mind.
  • You’re flexible in your approach and embrace a challenge; you can come up with new ways of answering research questions quickly and communicating the results in a memorable, impactful way.


  • Experience working in product design
  • Deep knowledge and experience of UX design
  • Product management experience
  • Strong experience of user research, user testing, product discovery and product management approaches
  • A passion for learning about users and designing solutions which solve their needs
  • Preferably, some experience of designing processes in small to medium-sized companies and ensuring consistency across multiple teams
  • Experience in leading client engagement and commercial conversations
  • Experience in leading client presentations and showcases
  • Strong design knowledge coupled with a solid understanding of web and mobile app technologies
  • A strong eye for detail, and a belief that the small details matter
  • An understanding of SEO and accessibility strategies
  • Competent in the use of Figma and Adobe Creative Cloud software

Industry experience

  • 5+ years’ experience working on Enterprise CMS or Ecommerce projects in a UX or product design role, with a demonstrable portfolio of websites or apps that have great user experiences
  • 3 + years’ experience working iteratively, within agile delivery models
  • 2 + years’ experience leading and mentoring a design team
  • 2 + years’ experience successfully managing the design delivery of digital projects
  • 2 + years’ experience creating design systems in Figma
  • Demonstrable experience of designing websites that have great customer experiences
  • Demonstrable experience of designing products that meet WCAG standards
  • Demonstrable experience of using data and insights to inform and evaluate design decisions

Desired experience

  • A digital agency background
  • Relevant Degree educated, 2.1 or equivalent preferable.
  • Retail sector experience in B2B, B2C and D2C solutions
