Lead Business Analyst

We are looking for a Lead Business Analyst who will work with and advise client stakeholders & Profound delivery team to accomplish project goals. They will be expected to consult on options for our clients to increase their revenue and profits through creative thinking and application of best and proven practices in the market.

About the role

The Lead role is highly client facing, focused on helping deliver transactional website projects for clients.  The role covers the full project lifecycle of projects from the elaboration of requirements and/or user stories through to UAT and go-live.  Their priority will be workshopping requirements for projects and writing these up in functional documentation.

In addition to the role of Lead Business Analyst there is also a requirement for the individual to perform as a Lead Digital Consultant. They will be responsible for helping organisations to solve issues, create value, maximise growth and improve business performance. They will use their experience and skills to provide objective advice and expertise to help organisations to develop specialist skills that they may be lacking.

Within this role you’ll be concerned primarily with client companies’ strategy, structure, management, and operations. Your role will be to identify options for the organisation and suggest recommendations for change, as well as advising on additional resources to implement solutions.

This is a management role, currently with 1 direct Analyst report but team size may expand in the future.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • To analyse and understand project scope and core objectives
  • Lead requirements elaboration workshops with client stakeholders to define high level business requirements
  • Proactively support the management of the Client either directly or indirectly through the Delivery Lead
  • Gather and organize requirements into functional areas and help the client to prioritise the requirements
  • Prepare the functional design workshop plan and agendas for each workshop
  • Lead functional design workshops with client stakeholders and technical architect to elicit detailed, low level functional requirements
  • Critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, break down high-level information into their constituent details, abstract up from low-level information to a general understanding, and distinguish user requests from the underlying true business needs.
  • Collaborate with Solution architect, Design/Tech Leads and subject matter experts to establish the technical vision and analyse trade-offs between usability and performance needs.
  • Proactively communicate and collaborate with both internal project team members and external client stakeholders to analyse information needs and functional requirements and deliver the following artefacts as needed:
  • Functional design specification and supporting the design team in the creation of wireframes/prototypes
  • Workflow / business process flow diagrams
  • Data Model/s
  • Obtain sign-off from client on the specifications
  • In conjunction with the technical architect, plan and present the construction phase kick-off meeting introducing the design and/or development team and other internal stakeholders to the project ensuring the team understand the project scope, core objectives and key functional requirements.
  • Be proactive in ensuring that the development and QA teams understand the requirements by attending daily team meetings and initiating functional clarification sessions where needed.
  • Be the liaison between the business, the design and/or development team and the support team.
  • Review the test plan and test scripts to ensure quality and coverage of the testing
  • Provide training material and run training sessions for business users when necessary.

Experience & Knowledge:


  • Proven previous working experience as a Lead Business Analyst.
  • Demonstrable track record in software development and end to end experience of the project lifecycle. (Agile and Waterfall)
  • Experience in successfully leading requirement elicitation workshops with technology and business professionals is essential
  • Recommend approaches to increase the revenues and profits of customers through the implementation of digital initiatives, both at strategic and tactical level.
  • Ability to successfully challenge customer requirements in order to truly understand the underlying needs of the business and arrive at the best possible outcome for the client.
  • Demonstrable experience in writing requirements specifications for Retail Information Systems. This includes producing the following:
    • High level business requirements document
    • Detailed functional design document
    • Workflow / business process flow diagrams
  • Candidate must be an exceptionally clear communicator including facilitation, presentation and written skills and must have the ability to be pragmatic and drive strong scope management disciplines.
  • Experience of testing the developed solution to ensure it meets requirements and client expectations.
  • Ability to communicate conceptual ideas
  • Keep up to date with best practices and innovative initiatives in the ecommerce/multichannel environment.


  • Experience of usability and accessibility would be an advantage.
  • Able to design user interaction models, workflows, user interfaces and create prototypes as appropriate.
  • Numeracy and process development skills
  • Broad and deep experience of large, complex, multi domain, multisite ecommerce/multichannel projects
  • Experience of functional design
  • Experience at least 2 of the following solutions (Headless MACH architecture, Shopify +, Product Information Management Systems, Order Management Systems)
  • Experience of working within a consulting organisation/agency
  • Has successfully worked on multiple consulting projects for clients.

  • Requirements management skills, to help implement and/or improve requirements processes and practices and to define, for a given initiative, the tasks to be performed, the techniques to be used, and the deliverables to be produced.
  • Has previously worked for a retailer, agency or SI
  • Some experience in change management
  • Has a background in consulting

Education & Qualifications:


  • Minimum of 2 years experience of working within a consulting/agency environment


  • Agile and/or Prince 2 project management qualified
